February 16 2018 / by Mari Ryan

Each week I read a number of wellbeing articles from various online resources. Here are my top three picks from this week. I have added my comments about each article and would like to hear what you think too.

This week we focused on a theme of support for employees in the form of Employee Assistance Programs. Don't miss this blog "What motivates an employer to offer an EAP?" or this Expert Interview with Kathy Greer of KGA.

1 in 5 Highly Engaged Employees is at Risk of Burnout. by Emma Seppala and Juliea Moeller (Harvard Business Review)

Every manager wants engaged employees. Right? But what happens when they are so engaged that they are burning out. This article addresses the 'engaged-exhausted' group.

My comments: I've been a fan of Emma Seppala for a while. This article describes so many people I know that are really excited about their jobs but may have trouble setting the boundaries that are so important for their personal wellbeing.

With EAP usage rates in the single digits, employers offer wonder if they are getting their money's worth. What options should be offered as part of an EAP.

My comments: An important element of any benefit  offered to employees is to understand what employees want. This article does a nice job of addressing which services are most beneficial to the workforce.

My comments: As the mom of a 9.5 month old Cairn Terrier, I have great appreciation for how a new pet impacts your life. I'm also finding with some of my clients, that their employees are asking for pet-related benefits. With nearly 90 million dogs in households in America, I'm hoping it is a trend that is here to stay.
