Belonging Drives Well-being

There are a few basic things that are required for us as humans to be well. One of them is a sense of belonging.  Connectedness has become a much bigger topic since the pandemic has forced us out of our workplaces and apart from each other.

As human beings, we need to feel connected. When an employee feels accepted and valued as a member of a group, and connected with the organization, they will feel that sense of belonging.

Research has shown that having a sense of belonging can increase our happiness, leading to improved well-being. We know that happy employees are more engaged, and more likely to recommend their employer as a great place to work. It may also hold true that happy employees are more likely to stay.

Belonging is getting more visibility. Corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives have made the shift to DEIB, including belonging as a key element their efforts.

Workplace well-being initiatives need to be linked with DEIB initiatives. Breaking down these silos will help highlight how belonging drives well-being.
