Summertime and the living is easy

Summertime and the living is easy. Remember that song? The famous aria from George Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess

Summertime is my favorite time of the year. I love being able to get out kayaking on a local pond or getting on my bike; taking time to go to the beach or some other summer fun activity.

Summertime is the perfect time to book time away with your family. A recent Allianz survey showed that 57% of US employees are taking vacations more than 100 miles from home. This is up significantly from the previous two years when the pandemic limited our travel.

How about the other 43%? Are they staying home? Not taking vacation at all?

Don’t underestimate the power of taking a break. Stepping away from work can recharge your energy, enhance your creativity, and improve your overall well-being.

This is especially important given the impact the pandemic has had on our mental well-being. Experiencing a change of scenery, reconnecting with family and friends, and taking part in new activities can all improve your mental outlook.

Managers and leaders in organizations can be role models for this, by not only taking vacation, but by not working while away.

Where are you off to this summer?
